Dear Community Health Workers, Promotores, and Community Health Representatives,
As the Founder of Día de la Mujer Latina, Inc., I want to express my heartfelt appreciation for each of you. Your unwavering dedication to the health and well-being of our communities is more vital than ever.
In times like these, we understand that feelings of anxiety, stress, and even stigma may increase among those we serve. These are challenging moments, but together, we have the power to foster resilience and hope. Your role as Promotores and Community Health Workers extends beyond providing essential health services; you bring comfort, understanding, and strength to those who may feel vulnerable.
We recognize the emotional impact of these changes, and we are here to support you as you guide our communities. With nearly 30 years of experience, we have seen how powerful compassionate care can be in helping others navigate difficult times. Each encounter you have—whether it’s offering a listening ear, providing health education, or connecting individuals to resources—makes a difference.
Women, cancer patients, survivors of violence, and many others may feel an increased sense of fear or uncertainty. This is why your work is so crucial. You are pillars of trust and support, creating safe spaces where individuals can feel valued and understood. We are here to provide you with additional training and resources so that you may continue to offer this invaluable support.
We are committed to moving forward with kindness, understanding, and a strong sense of unity. In every interaction, you embody the spirit of inclusivity and healing. You serve as beacons of hope and resilience, demonstrating the strength and unity that define our community.
Let us continue to stand together, choosing to see and support one another. Let us lead with compassion and a commitment to the health and dignity of every person, regardless of background, nationality, or circumstance. Together, we are building a healthier, more united world.
Thank you for all that you do. Your work is respected, valued, and celebrated. We are here to support you now and always.
Statement from Día de la Mujer Latina, Inc.
Día de la Mujer Latina, Inc. is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Mr. Lorenzo Salgado. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, children, grandchildren, extended family, friends, and all who knew and loved him. Every life has value, and every family deserves the opportunity to return home safely to one another.
As a grassroots community-based organization that has served families for nearly three decades, we recognize that events such as this leave lasting emotional wounds that extend far beyond those directly involved. They can create fear, uncertainty, grief, and trauma throughout entire neighborhoods, especially among children, older adults, and individuals already facing significant life challenges.
Our concern is, and has always been, the health and well-being of our community. Mental health is an essential part of overall health. In times of tragedy, it is important that families have access to trusted sources of support, accurate information, and culturally responsive mental health resources that help people cope with loss, anxiety, and stress.
This moment reminds us of the importance of treating every person with dignity, respect, and humanity. We hope for healing for Mr. Salgado’s family, for the Magnolia Park community, and for all those affected by this heartbreaking event.
Día de la Mujer Latina remains committed to bringing people together through compassion, education, trusted community partnerships, and access to health and wellness resources. During difficult times, we believe our strongest response is to care for one another and to continue building healthier, stronger, and more resilient communities.
During times like these, no one should have to navigate grief, fear, or uncertainty alone. Our Telehealth Community Navigation Contact Center stands ready to connect individuals and families with trusted community resources, behavioral health support, healthcare services, and other assistance that promotes healing, hope, and resilience.
As we mourn this tragic loss, Día de la Mujer Latina remains steadfast in our mission to improve the health and well-being of the communities we serve through compassion, trusted partnerships, and access to culturally responsive health information and support.
